Pasiparuppu dal / Gotsu

Looking for an easy side dish for idli/ dosa that has the goodness of lentils and is super simple to make? Then look no further. This moong dal Gotsu recipe is something I grew up eating as a child and is one of my absolute favorite dals. The Gotsu / dal is so versatile, you can have it with idlis, dosa or even with rice. Add some garam masala instead of sambar powder and you have a comforting side dish for rotis.

I make this recipe atleast once a week and my little one loves it as well. (Although for her, I have to removethe coriander leaves and curry leaves and reduce the amount of chillies in the dish. ) I prefer cooking my dals in my regular pressure cooker as I feel they are much faster. But this can be easily done in the IP as well. Since moong dal cooks fast, it doesnt matter if you use electric or traditional prrssure cooker. I have shared both the recipes for you here.

The reason I love this recipe. It is

  • vegan
  • comforting
  • uses ingredients you have at home all the time
  • delicious
  • super easy to prepare
  • and goes well with a lot of dishes

  4. Add the moong dal, water, coriander leaves and switch off the saute mode. Cook in manual high for 15 minutes and release pressure naturally.

  5. Serve hot with idlis/ dosa or rice.

Recipe Notes

* Can substitite sambar powder with  1 tsp coriander jeera powder and 1/2 tsp or less chilly powder.

*Highly recommend using moong dal. But it can be made with masoor or toor dal as well.
