veg pizza

There’s nothing complicated about pizza dough. It is quite simple and easy to make at home. I love the smell of freshly baked bread and with homemade pizza dough I find it easy to customize the shapes/size of the pizza, work with different toppings and experiment all I want. This is a simple pizza dough recipe that I adapted from a cookbook I own. I did not make the sauce from scratch here as I used store bought ones, hence no recipe for the sauce. But I will be posting the recipe of sauce and toppings soon. I have topped my pizza with some jalapenos, roasted cauliflower, bell peppers onions and lots of mozzarella.

Making pizza from scratch does not have to be daunting anymore 🙂

Ingredients:

  • 1 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup whole wheat flour
  • 11/2 cup all purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup warm water

Method:

Pour 1/4 cup warm water into a mixing bowl, stir in the yeast and set aside until foamy about 10 minutes.

Add 1/2 cup warm water, olive oil and salt and add the wheat flour, followed by the all purpose flour and form a shaggy dough.

Transfer it to the counter and knead the dough until smooth (add more flour – a tsp at a time to keep it from sticking) For a light, crisp crust, the dough should be a little on the moist side.

Place the dough in an oiled bowl and cover it. Set it aside for 1 hour or until doubled.

After the dough has doubled, divide the dough as per the number of pizzas you prefer to make. Shape the dough using your palm or rolling pin and place it in a lightly floured surface. Cover it and let it rise for another 15-20 minutes. You can refrigerate the remaining dough and use it later.

Preheat the oven to 475 F. Add the pizza sauce and toppings and cheese as needed to the pizza dough and bake it in a pizza stone/pan for about 10 minutes until the pizza starts bubbling.  (I added onions, roasted cauliflower, jalapenos, bell peppers and lots of cheese to my pizza)
